Meet the Interns: Taylor Tringali
1. Tell us a little about yourself...
I am a junior at the University of Florida. I’m a first-generation student and I am majoring in Sociology with a minor in Mass Communications. I’m very passionate about my major, as I have always been interested in human relationships and social behavior. This ignited my passion for social justice and social change. I am involved in a local service Sorority, Delta Nu Zeta, where I work to better the Gainesville community through service. I also love to travel and experience new places. I recently studied abroad in Italy over the summer and it was incredible.
2. Why are you involved with LGBT activism?
I am involved in LGBT activism because I strive to make our world a safe and understanding place for LGBT individuals. I have heard numerous stories about instances of discrimination, which makes it clear that equality is still an on-going fight. There are too many people who have had to suffer discrimination, harassment, and punishment for being who they are and I want to change that.
3. Why did you want to intern at Equality Florida?
When I learned about the many things Equality Florida stands for, I knew that this organization would be a great place for me to learn and grow while dealing with issues that I am passionate about. Equality Florida gives me the opportunity to be socially active about the LGBT issues in the community. It also teaches me how to communicate about this issues effectively, which will help me in my personal endeavors as well as my career goals.
4. What are your plans after you graduate?
After graduation, I would like to find a job working with a business or organization that fights for a social issue that I am passionate about. I plan to use strategic communication to continue creating positive social change through the organization that I work for. I also want to further my education and receive my master’s degree, to increase my knowledge of this field.
