ACTION ALERT: Call & send a letter to the commissioners in support of adding gender identity & expression to the Miami-Dade County HRO!

The Miami-Dade County Commission is preparing to take a critical vote on LGBT rights, and anti-gay extremists have been out in force with an ugly campaign of scare tactics and misinformation. Our commissioners need to hear from you right away!

Click here to send a letter.

On August 26th, a committee of the Miami-Dade County Commission will hold a public hearing to consider important legislation that, if passed, will protect Miami-Dade’s entire LGBT community from discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations. The proposed amendment would add critical protections based on gender identity and expression to the county human rights ordinance.

Including gender identity and expression is important to making sure all members of the LGBT community are protected. Twenty-four Florida cities and counties, including the rest of South Florida, already have these protections and it is extremely important to pass them in Miami-Dade. Click here for a fact sheet on Gender Identity.

At a committee hearing last week, the right wing bused in hundreds of people and packed the room. They have been swamping the committee members with phone calls and emails. Commissioners need to hear you now!

Please do two things right now to show the committee members you stand with them in support of these vital protections!

1 - Call Commissioners Jean Monestime (305-375-4833) and José “Pepe” Díaz (305-599-1200). Tell them you support adding Gender Identity to the Human Rights Ordinance and ask that they support it too.

2 - Send an email to the commissioners by clicking here.

Don’t let scare tactics and lies be the only voices the commission is hearing - please call today.
