Here come the ladies!
Today is an exciting day for those who love when fierce women run for office, and let's be honest, who doesn't?
First, Tammy Baldwin has announced she is running for US Senate. Baldwin is a seven term Congresswoman from Wisconsin and if elected, would be the first openly LGBT member of the US Senate. The seat is open and Baldwin already has one anti-LGBT Republican challenger, former Congressman Mark Neumann, who has a long history of voting against the LGBT community.
And here in Florida there is another exciting rumor going around. Nan Rich has indicated she is thinking about running for Governor in 2014.
Rich is the minority leader in the Florida Senate and has been a long time champion of LGBT rights. For years she sponsored a bill to repeal Florida's ban on LGBT adoption and after the ban was repealed, sponsored a bill to make it illegal to fire someone because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Rich apparently told activists at a Labor event this weekend she would run against Rick Scott in 2014 but later told Browardbeat.com, "I'm certainly keeping all my options open which include running for governor." If she chooses to run, she will announce after the 2012 legislative session is over.
