UPDATE: White House LGBT Liaison Gautam Raghavan to Join Equality Florida Telephone Town Hall

Exciting news! We just received confirmation from the White House Office of Public Engagement that their LGBT liaison, Gautam Raghavan will join our Telephone Town Hall next Monday, December 5th, 2011.

BREAKING: Congressman Barney Frank will not run for re-election

Later today, Congressman Barney Frank will announce he is not running for re-election. Frank, the 16-term Congressman from Massachusetts, became the first openly LGBT member of congress when he came out publicly in 1987. He is the former chair of the powerful House Financial Services Committee, although perhaps he is better known for his quips.

Scott Randolph Elected Chair of Orange DEC

Monday night progressive dream-boat, Representative Scott Randolph, was elected chair of the Orange County Democratic Executive Committee. He replaces out going chair Amy Mercado.

Representative Randolph has been a champion for Democratic issues in Tallahassee, including sponsoring pro-LGBT legislation. Earlier this year he made national news by daring to say the word "uterus" on the House floor.

Last week, representatives of Equality Florida went to the White House for a Florida Community Leaders Briefing. I joined other Equality Florida staff and leadership volunteers for a day long briefing to get the latest on what the administration is doing on jobs; healthcare; the environment; education and LGBT rights.

Equality Florida Institute, the non-profit arm of state-wide Equality Florida, will hold its ninth annual Broward County “Voice for Equality” awards gala honoring two local heroes on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art at 1 Las Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale.
