Gay and Thinking About Adoption? Get Answers

With the ban gone, many people are wondering:

What exactly does this mean for my family?

A month has passed since Florida stopped enforcing the 33 year anti-gay adoption ban. Last Friday Attorney General Bill McCollum confirmed that he would not to squander more taxpayer dollars with an appeal of the court's unanimous decision.

Today, we live in a more fair-minded, more pro-equality state and we look forward to celebrating the thousands of "forever families" that will now form because this ban no longer exists.

Gay and Thinking About Adopting in Florida?

With the ban gone, many people are wondering: What exactly does this mean for my family?

It is very important to know your rights and choose a trusted adoption attorney and professionals who know the issues gay adoptive parents face. This is true whether you want to adopt a child you are already raising (with a partner or as a single parent) or if you want to adopt a child from foster care or through a private adoption agency. Because the rights of your family are at stake it is important for you to get the right information as early in the adoption process as possible.

We can help you get the information you need, whether you are just starting out or already have an attorney. Complete our form and we'll provide you important information about adopting as a gay or bisexual parent.

Let's enjoy this great victory while doing everything we can to ensure it lasts.

PS- We cannot take this amazing victory for granted.
Extremists have pledged to force this issue on the ballot as a constitutional amendment, either through the legislature or through a petition effort.

Equality Florida has already begun our "Adopt Equality" project to defend our hard-won victory but we cannot do it alone. Sign up to be part of our Adopt Equality team and we'll let you know how you can help.
