Holocaust Memorial Center of Florida Calls on Lake County Schools to Protect LGBT Students
The Executive Director of The Holocaust Memorial Center of Florida, Pam Kancher has sent a letter to the Superintendent of Lake County Schools and the members of the Lake County School Board asking them to remedy the damange done earlier this year by the homophobic rants of Mt. Dora High School teacher Jerry Buell. In her letter, Kancher asks Lake County Schools to update their policies to include Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and she offers inclusive trainings provided by Holocaust Memorial Center staff.
Equality Florida is part of a quarterly anti-bullying summit hosted by the Holocaust Memorial Center of Florida which includes members of the The Office of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, The Orlando Police Department, The University of Central Florida, Orange County Public Schools, Seminole County Public Schools, the Zebra House and dozens of other community leaders dedicated to ending bullying in Central Florida. We thank Pam Kancher and the Holocaust Memorial Center of Florida for being an advocate for all of the students of Lake County.
Thousands of Equality Florida members have already written the Lake County School board urging them to make these critical changes. You can join them in sending an email to the School Board by clicking here.
