Meet the Interns: Diamond Delancy

Meet the Interns: Diamond Delancy

(Gainesville Office)

1. Tell us a little about yourself...

My name is Diamond Delancy, and I am from the gorgeous city of Miami, FL. I am currently a second-year Public Relations student at the University of Florida with an intended minor in Non-Profit Organizational Leadership. Aside from interning with Equality Florida, I also serve as a mentor for first-generation honors students, and I am involved with UF’s Women’s Student Association through their Women’s Leadership Institute.

2. Why are you involved with LGBT activism?

I am involved with LGBT activism because as an African-American female, I have seen the effects of discrimination and inequality first-hand. I believe the issue of LGBT rights is so much more than that; it’s a human rights issue, and I just knew that I had to be a part of it.

3. Why did you want to intern at Equality Florida?

I wanted to intern at Equality Florida, because I felt that Equality Florida would give me a chance to take an active role in the fight for equality and really impact the world around me. Secondly, interning with Equality Florida would allow me to further develop essential communication skills that I would need in the future in order to be a successful Public Relations Practitioner. It was a perfect fit!

4. What are your plans after you graduate?

After I graduate, I plan to utilize my public relations skills by joining the Peace Corps and helping a developing country fight for education and/or community economic development issues. Upon the completion of my time as a Peace Corps volunteer, I hope to join Disney’s Communication/Public Relations team.

Stay tuned next week for the next blog post in our "Meet The Interns" series!
