Meet the Intern: Morgan Baker
(Media Intern - Jacksonville Office)
1. Tell us a little about yourself…
Hello! I am Morgan Baker. I am a student at the University of North Florida, studying Marketing and Advertising. I am not a Florida native, I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I moved to this state during my teenage years and fell in love with the amazing weather, culture and vast opportunity. I love reading and travelling because I believe that there is far more to learn than we have access to in our immediate environment. In my opinion, a positive attitude and approach are the keys to happiness and success. Catch up with me in then years to see if I can prove this true.
2. Why are you involved with LGBT activism?
Being a part of the LGBT community is not the only driving force as far as my involvement is concerned. As I've grown up, I've been exposed to the areas of great discrimination against the LGBTQ community. In a country founded upon freedom, it is shocking to witness the negative attitudes that are associated with a community that has such a massive presence in our society. I think it is imperative to get involved. If you see a problem with our system, only effort can bring change! I hope to help the community grow and strengthen, which is exactly what I believe is in our future.
3. Why did you want to intern at Equality Florida?
Equality Florida is my dream internship. The organization has an amazing connection with anti-discrimination legislation, giving me the opportunity to create a positive change in our environment. As a group, Equality Florida has it's heart in the right place and I cannot wait to be a part of all of the great change that is soon to come.
4. What are your plans after you graduate?
After graduation, I hope to join a non-profit organization as a full-time employee. Any opportunity that allows me to help an organization using my degree and the experience I've gained at UNF will make me happy!
