NEWS ROUND UP – Cent. FL Domestic Partner Registries garner unprecedented local, state and national media

In the last month there’s been a whirlwind of organizing and activity to create Orlando and Orange County domestic partnership registries. It’s been an emotional and intense effort that’s activated LGBT advocates, community leaders, faith leaders, business owners, elected officials and the media around a singular goal – providing legal recognition and meaningful protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender families in Orange County, FL.

Below is just a sampling of the media coverage of the last few weeks. Starting in December, after the City of Orlando created Central Florida’s first domestic partnership registry, there’s been a steady and sometimes overwhelming stream of local, state and national coverage on what has become a defining issues in the region. EQFL Field Director Joe Saunders and EQFL Orlando Steering Committee members Mary Meeks and Kathryn Norsworthy are leaders in the Orlando Anti-Discrimination Ordinance Committee. OADO has been the coalition calling for Central Florida’s first domestic partnership registries.

The work in Orange County is far from over but had a major breakthrough on Friday. Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs shared with the Orlando Sentinel that she agreed an ordinance (i.e. a law) was required to fully protect our families.
