Brian Winfield, MBA, Chief Financial Officer

Brian is Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Equality Florida Institute, Inc. and Equality Florida Action, Inc. (EQFL). He came to the organization in its third year (2000), while it was still a fledgling organization. During his tenure, EQFL staff has grown seven-fold, revenue has grown 2000% and, today, EQFL is the largest and most effective LGBT statewide civil right organization in the nation.

As CFO, Brian is primarily responsible for monitoring and impacting the financial health of the organization. He has day-today responsibility for Equality Florida’s: financial reporting and management, accounting oversight, risk management, human resources, legal and regulatory compliance, as well as overseeing institutional giving. He works closely with organization’s CEO and Board of Directors to report on, strategize around and ultimately strengthen EQFL’s financial health.

Prior to 2011, Brian was EQFL’s first Communications Director and raised the organization’s profile as the go-to source for LGBT information and opinion statewide and nationally. He was instrumental in creating the organization's branding, advertising, publications, educational programs, and messaging strategy. As a direct result, EQFL’s database now exceeds 261,000 supporter contacts, including 95,000 active online participants.

Brian also currently serves as Chair of the Community Leadership Board for the Florida Health Equity Research Institute (HERI). Past board membeships include: National Steering Committee Co-chair for LGBT HealthLink (July 2012 - Sept. 2015); Community Advisory Board for the Center for Equal Health, an NIH Center of Excellence (May 2009 - June 2013); Chair of the Moffitt Cancer Center Diversity Advisory Board (June 2007 - Sept. 2010); Treasurer of the Tampa Int’l Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (2000-2002); and Bay AIDS Services & Information Coalition (BASIC) Board (1995-1997) in addition to others.

Brian received his MBA in Finance & Int’l Business from New York University’s Stern Graduate School of Business (’91). He received a BS in Accounting from Rider University (’86) and achieved his CPA accreditation while at Deloitte & Touche (NYC) (’89).
