BREAKING: Leon County Passes Benefits for Employees

Last night the Leon County commission unanimously expanded it's employee health benefits to cover domestic partners of county employees. The vote came as part of the discussion around the proposed annual budget.

"This is a tribute to the hundreds of LGBT citizens who rallied in our community to make this happen, with the invaluable help of Equality Florida and Tallahassee's Family Tree," said Chairman Bob Rackleff. "In the end, it was undeniable that Leon County should provide all employees with the equal rights and equal benefit. Our unanimous vote last night said it all. I'm very proud of our community."
The vote comes just a few months after Leon County enacted a human rights ordinance that protects LGBT residents from discrimination.
