Iowa, Vermont, D.C. and Lake Worth.

Wow, what a few days. I’m not going to get into the rest, but I did sit in on the vote to place Susan Stanton as Lake Worth’s new City Manager. Stratton called, asked if I could run down for an interview and I ran.

The back story. Susan Stanton was the city manager in Largo Florida who lost her job when she announced she was transitioning.
Equality Florida was there to defend her, but she lost her job.

Today at 5pm, the Lake Worth City Commissioners and Mayor sat down to vote on who should fill the position of City Manager. Mayor Clemens called for a vote and in short order, Susan was the Council's selection. Evidently there were four good candidates.

Each of the commissioners spoke of why Susan was their pick. They spoke of management style, they spoke of vision, branding concepts and the fact that Susan was at her last job for 17 years. When they opened the meeting up for comments from the audience, citizens who had met the candidates at a previous Sunday gathering, spoke up in support if the decision. Notice anything missing from this story? Nor do I. And that my friends was it. They moved on to salary and car allowance.

The mayor came out a bit later just beaming. Yes, we love Lake Worth.
I’m so very, very proud of the Lake Worth City leaders. They chose the most qualified person for the job, period.
Now if we can just get our civil rights bills done.
Go Senator Deutch! Go State Rep. Kelly Skidmore!
