Today a stand alone "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal bill was introduced into the US House of Representatives. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Patrick Murphy and cosponsored by Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, is identical to the Senate repeal bill that was introduced on Friday by Sen. Joe Lieberman and Sen. Susan Collins.
The exact time table for a vote in the House is not yet known.
The bill may be sent to the Senate as "privileged" legislation that would allow it to be decided by one up-down vote that would require 60 votes for passage and bypass procedural hurdles.
In the Senate there are already 40 co-sponsors of S.4023 which would repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". Senator Bill Nelson is not yet a co-sponsor. Call him today and ask him to co-sponsor S.4023, the stand alone bill to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Leave a comment on our blog to let us know you called!
