Position Summary

Equality Florida consistently leads efforts to enhance the professional learning and development of organizations across Florida. Based on both vision and need, ongoing professional learning is needed to ensure LGBTQ best practices are not only critically sustained, but enhance the lives and experiences of LGBTQ Floridians.

We are hiring a Coordinator of Professional Learning, to help improve and expand the professional development that we implement within our Safe and Healthy Schools, Health Equity, and Parenting with Pride programs. Our programs have opened doors and forged ongoing partnerships in the education, healthcare, business, and nonprofit sectors.

Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Professional Learning, our Coordinator of Professional Learning will have a focus on expanding professional learning experiences, while supporting the Safe and Healthy Schools, Parenting with Pride, and Health Equity programs.

Through this collective of programs, we fight discrimination by empowering vulnerable populations while challenging interwoven systems of oppression. Our power lies in the ability to affect large-scale, systemic change across communities and throughout Florida.

Key Responsibilities:

Professional Learning and Supports

  • Collaborating with the Senior Manager of Professional Learning to manage goals, plans and programming to improve Floridians’ understanding of LGBTQ+ needs, concerns, and identities.
  • Developing and providing LGBTQ+ cultural competency training to organizations, ensuring Floridians have access to affirming schools, healthcare facilities, workplaces, and other community spaces.
  • Launching cross-departmental work to amplify the well-being of LGBTQ+ Floridians during significant recognitions, holidays, or days of visibility. This may be in the form of in-person events, but will largely be through building a bigger presence on social media.
  • Provide assistance to other departments within Equality Florida, as professional learning needs arise.

Professional Event Logistics

  • Lead and organize all logistics leading up to and during the yearly “All Together Now: Securing Safe Learning Environments for Florida’s LGBTQ+ Students” conference. This includes strategizing, coordinating logistics, and managing the event planning.
  • Providing technical and logistical support for webinars, events, summits, and other convenings that are hosted across the State. These events may occur either in-person or virtually and supplement the efforts of various departments across the organization.
  • Assist with other planning and logistics, as needed, including running technology, developing event materials, drafting PowerPoints, writing emails/copy, and reaching out to speakers or presenters.

Professional Experiences and Background:

Strong logistical, planning and technical skills: Comfortable and experienced in supporting or co-hosting in-person and virtual events of various scales, with an understanding of the logistical requirements of a successful conference, event, summit, or symposium. These abilities also translate into having excellent written and oral communication skills.

Knowledge and commitment to equity principles: Recognizes ways that race and other identities intersect in the work, especially with communities we serve. Comfortable talking about identities such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, class, ability, or gender in plain, specific terms. Is able to share this knowledge through professional development to audiences with a wide variety of understanding.

Entrepreneurial and resourceful: Consistently overcomes challenges and leverages resources to creatively solve problems. Proposes solutions to issues without much guidance (but isn’t afraid to ask questions). Is nimble as strategy and priorities change. Proactively asks for help, anticipates problems, and course-corrects where needed.

Attentive, empathetic leadership: Enthusiasm for meeting and engaging with people. Empathizes with the communities we serve. Able to put people at ease, especially when there are lines of difference. Is able to navigate highly complex and political spaces with grace and ease. Listens closely to understand needs or concerns and takes steps based on that input. You respond to people in a timely manner. Takes pride in providing clear, helpful information.
