A first-time volunteer at Harvey Milk Festival 2015

Arriving at 11:45, I was a little nervous/anxious about volunteering, asking strangers to sign a petition supporting equal rights. I had never participated or even attended a civil rights event, so volunteering at one came from a place of genuine love, curiosity, and determination to overcome whatever micro-barriers might still exist within me internally.

We kicked off 2015 with a bang this last weekend in Sarasota at the Suncoast LGBT Information Expo! As new members of Equality Florida’s Field team, North Florida Field Organizer Amber Paoloemilio and I were excited to get to work and attend our first event of 2015.

Sarasota transgender amendment passes first reading

Sarasota – On Nov. 3, the City of Sarasota unanimously approved on the first reading changes to the city’s anti-discrimination law which would add rights and protections for transgender individuals.
