About this Job

The ideal candidate will be experienced and knowledgeable about LGBTQ+ issues. Knowledge of the biomedical aspects of HIV and sexual health are essential. The internship will require the student to create visual and written content, attend conferences, community events, professional meetings, participate in prospective check-in phone calls with the coordinator of the program, and may require some travel across the state, dependent on specific types of events, The HIV Advocacy Intern may be responsible for the recruitment LGBT advocates to participate in HIV prevention and policy events. They must have a willingness to engage the public and participate in events that promote equitable opportunities for people living with HIV. Equality Florida employs people remotely although the organization does have several locations in different cities.

A Successful “HIV Advocacy Intern” would: ·

  • Be able to absorb information in an expedient manner and relay it successfully to external units.
  • Have a keen understanding of “process improvement”, visualizing possible barriers to achieve goals and creating effective solutions to completing assignments.
  • Be committed and foster a passion for the well-being and equality of LGBTQ community. This project has a focus on HIV, HIV education, and HIV advocacy. Strong knowledge in these areas is strongly preferred.
  • Stay up to date on news surrounding HIV, Prep, nPep, TASP, Sexual Health, and Government Policy.
  • Be able to conduct research on LGBTQ issues, challenges, and resiliency. Understand both LGBTQ angle as well HIV aspects of articles, scholarly journals, and online reliable resources.
  • Perform analysis of salient data, and communicate information effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • Have experience doing community outreach/engagement work.
  • Successfully complete baseline administrative work. Assisting in the completion of Yearly deliverables.
  • Be a quick resource for Equality Florida as a representative and voice during focus groups, professional meetings, and assistance with developing content.
  • Be organized, self-starter, and engaging.
  • Able to take direction from multiple people.
  • Manage time effectively and communicate challenges.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, which include being direct and open with the need for guidance or direction.
  • Assist in delivery of training along with the Project Coordinator.
  • Have a reliable phone and laptop use, be social media savvy.
  • Be available for consultation and or discussion with the HIV Advocacy Coordinator within a reasonable timeframe of which both the coordinator and intern agree upon.

Location: Statewide - preferences to major cities in Florida

Commitment: 15 hours a week for 13 weeks maximum

Pay: $12/hour
