While we continue to fight in Tallahassee to change Florida's notorious adoption law, our legal partners at the ACLU and NCLR are pursuing two promising cases in the Florida courts. However, we need to be careful not to put all of our hopes in a legal solution. First, getting to and winning before the Florida Supreme Court is a very tall order.

The Gainesville Sun reports that Republican Bill McCollum is moderating his political views and appealing to the Charlie Crist voters in his run for Florida Governor. The article points out that McCollum's support for includng sexual orientation in Hate Crimes laws and the fact that his finance chairman's lead oppositon to Amendment 2 has drawn the ire of arch conservatives including form Christian Coalition leader Dennis Baxley.

BREAKING NEWS | City of Miami Approves Domestic Partnership Ordinance | UPDATE: Today is a proud day for the City of Miami. I just left the commission chambers where the Miami City Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve an ordinance granting domestic partner healthcare benefits to all city employees. The lead sponsor, Commissioner Marc Sarnoff, proudly stated that this was the most important piece of legislation he has ever had the honor to sponsor. The chamber erupted in loud applause when the final vote was cast. There was no opposition.

Conservatives Shift in Favor of Openly Gay Service Members Americans are six percentage points more likely than they were four years ago to favor allowing openly gay men and lesbian women to serve in the military, 69% to 63%. While liberals and Democrats remain the most supportive, the biggest increase in support has been among conservatives and weekly churchgoers -- up 12 and 11 percentage points, respectively.
