Judge Sarah Zabel of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court has ruled that the ban on same-sex marriage in Florida is unconstitutional.
Pushing for a decision that would topple Florida’s gay-marriage ban in all 67 counties, lawyers for two Monroe County men who won the right to marry asked an appeals court on Monday to move the case directly to the state’s Supreme Court.

When judges in two counties struck down Florida’s ban on same-sex marriages last month, a St. Petersburg-based advocacy group was poised to get the word out.
The group, Equality Florida, organized celebrations from Tallahassee to Key West, and flooded social media with colorful graphics proclaiming “Love Wins in Florida!”
Equality Florida Institute is hosting a Tele-Town Hall Meeting on Monday, August 4 at 6 PM to address the status of the fight for marriage equality in Florida. Equality Florida Institute is a plaintiff, along with six same-six couples, in one of the lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of Florida’s ban on same-sex marriage.
