Faith leaders contradict claims of religious discrimination
They say a so-called pastor protection bill is both unnecessary and divisive
We kicked off 2015 with a bang this last weekend in Sarasota at the Suncoast LGBT Information Expo! As new members of Equality Florida’s Field team, North Florida Field Organizer Amber Paoloemilio and I were excited to get to work and attend our first event of 2015.
This morning the Orlando Sentinel ran an editoral calling on state lawmakers to put an end to LGBT discrimination by passing the Florida Competitive Workforce Act. Equality Florida has been pushing for this legislation since 2007, and last year 6 Republicans signed on as co-sponsors to the bill filed by Representative Joe Saunders.
Here is the Orlando Sentinel Editorial:
Rubio on Immigration Reform:
EQFL NOTE: The fight for fairness and equality has been going on for a very long time here in Florida. When one of our civil rights leaders passes on, it's a reminder to look back and appreciate the trackrecord of success the civil right movement has had in our state. Seeing how far we've come gives us hope for where we're going and the faith that we will get there.
EQFL NOTE: Like Utah, Florida does not currently have statewide non-discriminations protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. While it is difficult to quantify the financial impact of this lack of protections, we know that major employers consider a state's reputation when deciding to relocate or expand. He's an article in which officials at EBay explain their hesitation to expand in Utah, a state without these protections.
