Equality Florida's Response to NC Governor McCrory's Defeat ST. PETERSBURG, FL - North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory has finally conceded defeat. McCrory, who created the discriminatory HB 2 that has cost North Carolina $600 million and counting when corporations, jobs, conferences, and sporting events pulled out of the state, has officially been rejected by North Carolina voters. His opponent Roy Cooper made dismantling the anti-LGBTQ law a centerpiece of his campaign.

Cathy and Karla met at work almost 20 years ago and have been married since January 5, 2015. They were the first couple in Florida to be legally married once the freedom to marry was secured in the Sunshine State. As a lesbian couple living in South Florida, they have been advocating for their family and for the rights of the LGBTQ community for many years.

During LGBT History Month, the Miami Heat are hosting a party to celebrate South Florida’s LGBTQ community, called Loud & Proud, this Saturday, October 22nd. The Miami Heat are planning a huge event, sending professional NBA coaches and players, and making it open and free to the public.
