Last night Senator Nan Rich announced she is running for Governor in 2014. To a room full of applauding Democrats, Nan Rich announced she will challenge Governor Rick Scott in 2014. Rumors have been flying for months that Rich would jump in the race. Rich is currently the Minority Leader in the Florida Senate and will be leaving due to term limits. During her time in the Florida legislature she has been a champion for many progressive causes, including LGBT equality and women's issues.

His most noteworthy achievements include serving as chief organizer of the historic 1963 March on Washington

Right now, the City of Tampa is holding it's first hearing on a proposed domestic partnership registry. The room is packed full of supporters. Equality Florida's Tampa Development Officer, Ed Lally gave the following testimony to the Tampa City Council.  To watch the hearing live, click here.

Friends of mine who are also members of Equality Florida were up North late last year visiting family when they stopped for a meal at a roadside diner. Behind their booth they could hear a woman berating her child for identifying as transgender. Betsy and Ron are also PFLAGers who couldn't sit by in silence as the teenager sobbed beneath the mother's abuse. They spoke up and engaged them both, comforting the teen and educating the mom.

It's no secret that I love Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. She's one of my favorite lawmakers and just an amazing person. She just released a very touching "It Gets Better" video. Watch it and tell me you don't love her too.
